CEMEX owns a farm that is located between Assiut Cement Club and Assiut Plant with a total land area of 1007 acres.
The company has started planting 70 acres with various crops, like wheat and organic vegetables. There are various kinds of organic vegetables planted like Garlic, Onion, Tomato, Peas, Cucumber, Carrot, Lettuce, Eggplant, Pepper, and Courgetti. The vegetables production season usually starts during Autumn (October/November) and ends at the beginning of Summer (June). The plant also has 470 acres planted with Casuarina trees, the edges/trims of this tree is used as alternative fuel in the cement kilns.
Because CEMEX always seeks to provide healthy and high quality vegetables, the farm is irrigated by Nile water with a controlled use of chemicals, and pesticides that are approved by the Ministry of Agriculture.
Our projects will not only stop here, we are currently preparing a new phase of projects which will include animal fattening (e.g. cows and sheep) and fish production.
The farm products are sold mainly to the company’s employees, CEMEX hotel, and external customers (wholesalers and traders).
We put efforts in maximizing our resources utilization and providing quality vegetables and other related farm products to our employees and the local community.
