Cemex Egypt wins "Eco Innovator Award" by the Boston College Center for Corporate Citizenship
Cemex Egypt proudly received the prestigious "Eco Innovator Award" by the Boston College Center for Corporate Citizenship (BCCC) in a grand award ceremony for its submission of the program of partnership with the VeryNile initiative.
This award reflects the momentous achievements and breakthroughs throughout the ongoing two-year partnership with VeryNile. As of June 2022, and under the umbrella of our circularity-specialized business "Regenera”, VeryNile was able to collect 300 tons of waste from the Nile which was converted into alternative fuel in the Assiut Cement Plant.
Additionally, through Cemex's support, the VeryNile Qursaya operations expanded and developed to accommodate more hired fishermen, employees and a larger capacity to collect waste from the Nile. Recently, they were able to launch new operations in Assiut as well as receive waste from Sohag governorate, supporting the partnership's plans to clean the Nile River all over Egypt.
In celebration of these milestones and the company's keenness to encourage employees to play an active role in supporting sustainable practices and solutions, Cemex employees volunteered to collect, segregate and upcycle waste with the VeryNile Team during several different events in Cairo & Assiut.
About the award, Yago Castro Izaguirre, Cemex Egypt & UAE President, said: "At Cemex, we are committed to leading climate action through the Future in Action program. This partnership is a reflection of our keenness to building a better future for tomorrow's generations in Egypt. It is an honor to have these efforts recognized by the BCCC."
